Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about our services and processes at ObGyn Legal Consultants.

  • What services do you offer?
We provide OBGYN medical reviews, expert witness testimony, case deposition assistance, along with expert consultations for plaintiff and defendant attorneys, insurance firms, hospitals, regulatory agencies, and private practices. We review cases for both plaintiff and defense clients. We can also assemble a team of consultant specialists if your case requires subspecialty input beyond that of Dr. Swor.
  • How does the process work?
Generally we begin with a two hour advance fee for the initial telephone consultation after an introductory call has facilitated the timing and organization of records. Dr. Swor reviews all records and provides his findings in detail in an objective report. All but the busiest review assignments are done rapidly and back to you in a timely fashion. Communication is paramount, as is customer focus. There may be additional fees if the case mandates more consultation or expert input.
  • What type of expert are you?
    Dr. Michael Swor MD
Dr. Swor is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist with 25 years of medical clinical and medico-legal experience. Dr. Swor is the Chairman of the ObGyn Department Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System and is currently on the faculty of major Florida Medical Schools as well as serving on several local hospital committees. He has extensive organ system specific knowledge in gynecologic surgery, medical technology, patient safety, and medical review.
  • Can you handle complex or multi-specialty cases?
Yes. If your case needs additional inputs from specialists or subspecialists we will find, pull together, and coordinate the team to perform a thorough and credible review.
  • What geographic areas do you cover?
Although our home base is Sarasota, Florida, we have clients statewide. We will travel for depositions and court testimony as needed.
  • Who are your clients?
Our client list includes attorneys, insurance companies, hospitals, regulatory agencies and practitioners as well as plaintiffs and defendants in OBGYN-related legal issues. We have also handled criminal matters and workers compensation cases.
  • Why should I use your firm?
No one has Dr. Michael Swor’s credentials to provide the level of credibility, efficiency and accuracy we offer all of our clients. Dr. Swor is a physician that holds leadership roles at Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System and at local universities. Our turnaround time is incredibly expedient and a flat advance fee, minimally priced by the hour, is provided up front.
  • How do I begin a review?
Call us at 941-330-8885 or email us at [email protected] and we will discuss our process with you, your needs and our fees and quotes for additional work. Typically a 2 hour minimum advance fee is required to begin work on a review or questionnaire. More extensive reviews requiring two or more days for report writing involve fees articulated up front.
  • Will you come to court if needed?
Yes. Dr. Swor has extensive experience with depositions as well as court room testimony. He travels throughout Florida; travel outside of Florida may be arranged as needed.
  • Can you handle cases that deviate from your area of primary expertise?
Cases which fall outside of Dr. Swor’s core area of expertise will be developed with other qualified consultants to ensure a thorough review.
  • How fast are reviews completed?
We are very efficient in completing case reviews and work with tight deadlines; typically the timing of cases is advised up front to avoid surprises.
  • What case types do you review?
We provide services for obstetric/OB-GYN case types such as gynecologic surgery, patient safety, medical technology, criminal, and worker’s compensation. We work with plaintiffs and defendants.
  • Who will be reviewing my case?
We personally conduct our reviews. Dr. G. Michael Swor, MD, MBA—a board-certified OB-GYN physician—will review your case and he has more than 20 years of clinical experience, medical school teaching appointments, and legal consulting and testimony experience.
  • What is your review process?
After an initial consultation to discuss your needs, we gather the necessary documents and conduct a careful review. For most projects, we charge a two hour advance fee. We provide a fair and impartial written report, communicate with you throughout the process, and can draw on the expertise of other consultants when needed.
  • How do you ensure objectivity?
Accuracy, honesty and impartiality matter to us. All our reviews are objective and evidence based. Dr. Swor adheres to high ethical standards and professional integrity in all aspects of his work.
  • Do you do work out of state or just Florida?
Our office is in Sarasota, Florida; however we have many clients within the state and we can travel when needed to meet with clients or appear as an expert in a court proceeding.
